Freelance Hot Desks Are Just a Click Away

“It's just a shot away, It's just a shot away,” was the Rolling Stones song blaring out at Freelance Supermarket HQ this lunchtime.

"It's just a click away, It's just a click away," is the jingle a new App company should use, if you ask me.

The App is called "AndCo" and what they are doing is matching freelancers such as yourself with "Hot Desks" around London.

What exactly is a Hot Desk? Put plainly, it is a local place such as restaurant, cafe or bar which has an available "space," or "desk."

In other words, if you are a freelance professional and you want to find somewhere to focus on your work, while at the same time getting a cup of coffee, a meal, or a pint of beer...then "AndCo" should be installed on your phone.

The App will track your every movement and alert you when a Hot Desk becomes available in your vicinity.

Just walk around London is my advice...with a laptop under your arm and a phone in your hand. That is all you need to get some work done in this day and age.

Not everybody wants to work in a cafe, restaurant or bar though. There are some freelancers out there who prefer their home comforts. Such as me here at Freelance Supermarket HQ.

I like to chill out on the sofa and watch TV while getting a bit of work done. I guess a "Hot Desk" wouldn't be suitable for me...although a "Hot Sofa?" Now we are getting somewhere.

Dress code? Pyjamas are okay. Favourite TV show? Jeremy Kyle...of course.

Back to "AndCo" and it appears they launched in June of this year and already have 800 members signed up to the service.

Some of the "Hot Desks" you can find on the App include cafes, restaurants and bars in Soho, Shoreditch, and Notting Hill.

If the App becomes popular then it wouldn't surprise me to see freelance hot desks pop up all around the country, in cities such as Cornwall, Cardiff, Colchester, and Fife.

The owner of the App had this to say - "All you hear is bars and restaurants are facing a crisis, so why not actually leverage that capacity in the day? By 2022, 50 per cent of the working population will be freelance, and there's all this empty space."

It certainly seems like a good idea to me, and if working while drinking and eating is your thing then give it a try is my advice.

Me? I'm going to stick with tried and trusted "Hot Sofa" right here at Freelance Supermarket HQ, thank you very much.
