Tax Avoider? No Honours For You...Not This Year

If you are a freelance professional then you pay your tax every year and hope you are honoured by the Queen.

However, for most of you, at the same time every year when the honours list is announced, you no doubt have that same disappointed feeling every single year.

The same kind of feeling I had right here at Freelance Supermarket HQ when the freelance website of the year award was announced by IPSE, and...well, you all know how that one goes.

I've forgotten about it, but it seems that HMRC and the Royal Family will not forget about it if you forget to pay your tax.

That's right. If you are a tax avoider and HMRC catch you in the act, then you can expect to lose your chance of ever being awarded with an honour from her majesty the Queen.

This kind of reminds me of the time when I was sitting on the throne and then I realised that Freelance Supermarket had been passed over once again...NO...I-have-forgot-about-it!!!!

So if you dodge tax then you are never going to visit the Queen on her throne, and you are never going to have the honour of getting an award.

Your face on the television, with the Queen putting a badge on your suit and then you smiling for the cameras with your family. NEVER going to happen my friend...not if you don't pay your taxes.

So that is why I am sending out this message to all freelancers out there. Make sure you get yourself a good accountant and then pay your taxes.

It doesn't matter if you work from home or work in an office. If you are a contractor or gig worker. Everybody has to pay taxes, it is the law.

Here at Freelance Supermarket I don't have any ambition to be Knighted, although I wouldn't say no.

As anyone in the freelance industry knows...the main goal is to be honoured by your industry leaders...groups such as CIF and the IPSE...

"Freelance Website of the Year" was the award that was rightfully ours. Everybody knows it and everybody is talking about it, but not us because we have forgotten about it.

Instead of getting a freelance award we would like to make ourselves available for a knighthood from the Queen.

A second prize? Yes. A good second prize though.

"Services to the freelance community," could be the official reason on the honours list.
