Just when you thought freelancing in the UK couldn't get any more popular...well, it did, with news that many people are being paid up to £450 a day.

Why work for a boss when you could bank this kind of money doing your own thing? It's one of the main reasons why many employees are now choosing to quit their job and become self employed.

Take Crossrail for example, a rail contracting company that is currently looking for skilled freelancers to work on a new project for £450 a day.

There is a lot of work to be had in this industry around the London and South East area, and some experts are predicting that other parts of the country will also be demanding freelance rail workers very soon.

It isn't all about getting paid hundreds of pounds a day though. Remember when I reported about how a Google employee decided to quit his job and go out on his own? At first he earned less money but worked about half the hours and was able to travel the world at the same time.

Many people have the same goal, where being a freelance professional isn't necessarily about making the most about of money, it is about having the best quality of life for themselves and their family.

Just to note, the ex Google employee actually went on to make more working as a freelancer than he did in his old job, all while only doing half the hours and from the comfort of his laptop.

While being a freelancer does have many benefits things don't always go smoothly. For example, it recently came to my attention that a freelance television production team say they have not been paid thousands of pounds by a well known TV station.

The total amount is reported to be around £20,000, and according to insider sources the TV station has said they "won't get paid." Who knows exactly what has gone on here, but it just goes to show some of the downsides of being a freelance professional.

It's all well and good being hired to do a job at £450 a day, but if you don't get paid then what is the point? That is why it is always a good idea to check out a company and do your research before doing any work.

With that being said, the vast majority of freelance jobs out there are completely legitimate, and offered by companies who pay you on time, every time.

So don't let a few stories discourage you from becoming a freelancer. Especially when you have the potential to make £450 a day in some industries
